No one should have to face economic, educational or housing injustice alone.

To so many members of our community, though, the gentrification and displacement rampant in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick right now can feel like a solo uphill battle.

That could've easily been Catalina Hidalgo's story when her landlords at 300 Nassau Ave. in Greenpoint began offering her buyouts for her rent-controlled apartment, conducting noisy and unapproved construction, and finally destroyed the water main in December 2013, making her building too dangerous to live in.

She contacted our tenant advocates for help, and joined by two other units, St. Nicks Alliance made complaints to the city and continued to fight for 300 Nassau's residents alongside our strategic partners for three years.

This fall, we celebrated moving them back into their repaired homes — and those landlords are due in criminal court soon to face justice for their actions.

Fighting for this building and so many other stories in our neighborhood often takes years, a lot of hard work, and most of all, a good team of people who aren't willing to give up until they win the fight.

We need you on that team.

In all our 41 years of serving North Brooklyn, we've never been content to stand by while our neighbors are unable to access the housing, education, and employment support they need. We know you aren't either.

Join us as we make a final financial push at the end of this year to raise $5,000 to continue fighting on behalf of neighbors like Catalina.

Together, we'll keep working toward a North Brooklyn community where everyone can thrive.
